Dear esteemed potential doer of the thing,
A club with remarkably small ambitions
I am pleased to propose a club devoted to the sort of courage that rarely gets a soundtrack. Asking a question. Entering an unfamiliar room. Sending the email you have opened, adjusted, and closed several times while apparently waiting for the wording to receive a blessing. I would like to hear about those things, if you would like somebody to notice them with you.
The organization is currently very small. It consists of me, this invitation, and a willingness to be impressed by details the wider world might overlook. There is no application form or ceremonial jacket. I considered a committee but feared we would spend the first six meetings deciding on a font. We can begin with your story instead.
You decide what counts as brave
What asks a lot of one person can look ordinary to another. You do not need to submit supporting evidence that your particular step was difficult enough. If walking into the class, making the call, or saying what you needed mattered to you, I would like to understand it. I am prepared to take your word for the size of your own mountain.
Your step can also be declining something or changing your mind. This is not a programme of increasingly dramatic dares culminating in you standing on a cliff for my entertainment. You choose what you want to try, whether to try it now, and whether it turns out to be worth your energy. Sensible reconsideration does not result in expulsion from the club.
A small attempt does not need a large audience. One interested person can be enough.
The awkward middle is admissible
Perhaps it went beautifully. Perhaps it was uncomfortable, confusing, or so ordinary afterwards that you wondered what all the anticipation had been about. Tell me whichever version you want. I am not holding the story until a triumphant ending becomes available. We can discuss the bit where you forgot the sentence, recovered half of it, and carried on anyway.
Small details are welcome: a person who was kind, something you learned, or a moment that surprised you. You do not need to extract three valuable lessons before speaking. Sometimes the official finding is simply, 'Well, I did it, and then I went home.' I consider this a respectable report, particularly if going home involved a snack.
Please select your preferred cheering volume
I can provide interest with varying levels of fuss. You may want a cheer, a quiet acknowledgment, or someone to listen while you decide how you feel. Tell me if you know. I would rather bring the amount of encouragement you want than arrive with an imaginary brass band while you are trying to describe a very small, rather tender thing.
You can mention something you are considering without making a pledge to complete it. A thought shared here is not a contract I should wave at you next week. I want to hear your choices as they develop, including the choice to stop or take a different route. You remain interesting to me when the plot takes a sensible detour.
Dispatches from the front of ordinary life
You can choose video, a camera-off voice note, or writing when you open this invitation. Sixty seconds is a starting point, not a maximum or a heroic feat in itself. Tell a short story, take longer, or review what you have made and decide not to share it. There is no need for a stirring speech, special lighting, or a determined gaze towards the horizon.
Anything you do send comes to me, the host, not automatically to a club or group. Despite the impressive organizational language, there is no audience waiting beyond this invitation's recipient. There is also no daily quota of bravery. Send something when you want, skip days, and never attempt an extra deed merely to supply me with content. I already care about you on the uneventful days.
OUR LITTLE PROMISE
If something took a little courage today and you would like me to know, I would be glad you told me.
The club's real purpose is very simple: to let you know that I am interested in your life as you try it. All ceremonial nonsense is an affectionate extra.
